Are the days of mindless binge-watching officially over? It's starting to feel that way. I've got a few shows in rotation right now — Severance, The Pitt, The White Lotus — and more than I care to admit so you don't judge how much free time I have. But they all have one thing in common. The dreaded weekly drops.

Are we going back to the dark ages of cable, where you had to sit through commercials and wait until 9 p.m. once a week for a new episode? Not to Gen Z myself, but I lived for the nights when my family would gather around the living room TV after a new episode of Modern Family and The Middle would drop so we could all enjoy it together. And while waiting a full week for a new episode after a cliffhanger is pure agony, I have to admit, it's working. The more I wait, the more I talk about the show, the more I speculate, the more I care. And that's how the greatest of fandoms are born.
